Mission Corps: Carrying the Cross in New York City Reply

This year, on Good Friday, I had the experience of joining the Mission Youth crosswalk through the streets of Manhattan. Same great experience as last year, except this year I made sure we brought a video camera.

Recommendation: Watch it on fullscreen on Youtube.

Our route was significantly different from the one we took last year.

We started around 11:00 a.m. at Columbus circle and proceeded down Broadway to Times Square, but instead of circling back up north to St Patrick’s Cathedral, we continued south on Fifth all the way down to Old Saint Patrick’s in Soho, arriving at 2:30.

3 and 1/2 hours carrying the cross was a great way to start Good Friday and get ready for Easter. And that was just the beginning. The Celebration of the Lord’s Passion and Veneration of the Cross began promptly at 3:00 p.m. That ended at 4:30 which gave the missionaries 30 minutes to get their costumes ready for the Living Stations of the Cross in streets of Soho — they did a fabulous job (I’ve got the video for that coming tomorrow, God willing).

At 9:00 I joined the missionaries again for the Midnight Run — bringing food and clothing to homeless people in the city. It ended sometime after midnight. I think I finally got home at about 2:30 a.m. I can’t remember if I was tired or not, which means I probably was.

Thank you, missionaries, for an unforgettably good Good Friday and have a Happy Easter!
