What is the New Evangelization?

That’s what I call New Evangelization in action.

Before we get to the topic of Natural Family Planning (NFP), I’d like to say a couple of things about New Evangelization.

First, when I ask Catholics at random if they’ve heard the expression “New Evangelization” they usually answer, Yes. When I ask them to explain what it is, they are usually stumped for an answer.

So, recently, I’ve been discussing with my colleagues about the idea of a video competition on the theme of New Evangelization: Biltrix wants You to tell us, or rather, show us what the New Evangelization is.

I’m still working out the details (dates, deadlines, rules, and prizes) for this competition, but my plan is to launch the competition before the end of summer. I’ll keep you posted.

Now, back to the NFP…

Why NFP is better

The following video will serve two purposes.

1. It is a good example of the type of video that might do well in the Goodness Reigns NFP Video Competition (featured in the video above)
2. It will also explain why NFP is better than artificial birth control

(If the remainder of this article looks familiar, it is because I copied it from an earlier article on this blog. I thought that would be kinder than redirecting you there with another with another link…)

In sum, chemical forms of birth control are harmful, because of the potential side effects, such as:

• Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Emboli (potentially life-threatening blood clots)
• Cerebrovascular accidents (strokes)
• Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)
• Gallbladder disorder
• Death

In contrast, NFP should be preferred, because:

• It is sanctioned by the teaching of the Catholic Church (as opposed to birth control)
• It strengthens spousal relationships
• Women are less prone to being regarded as sex objects
• It is statistically proven to lower the risk of divorce
• It does not require a prescription
• It is relatively inexpensive compared to birth control because it costs nearly nothing
• It is truly natural and organic (as opposed to chemical birth control, which has numerous harmful side effects)

So from even a naturalistic standpoint, couples should prefer NFP to artificial birth control.
