Marriage. More than a civil rights issue, it is a civilization issue. Why?
Because:
Homosexual relationships do nothing to serve the state interest of propagating society, so there is no reason for the state to grant them the costly benefits of marriage, unless they serve some other state interest. The burden of proof, therefore, is on the advocates of gay marriage to show what state interest these marriages serve. Thus far, this burden has not been met… (read more).
And if the government has reason to support homosexual behavior only if it serves some other state interest, and the government is supporting homosexual behavior, then we must determine what state interest it currently serves.
Well put. Of course the state interest only serves the common good when it is directed by the principles of natural law. The reason I liked this article is that it addresses the issue from a clear natural law perspective in a way that ought to make sense to any reasonable person. The problem is that we are not always dealing with reasonable people on this issue. But there’s always hope. God bless!
The government of course wants to support homosexual marriage. This administration is doing it’s best to make sure there are no more Americans then there has to be. Fifty five million + abortions and gay marriage I would think would pretty much give them their wish, if continued! Good post and God Bless, SR
You definitely have a point. It ain’t lookin’ good…
TheRainyView summed up this argument perfectly, so I’ll merely add an illustration of why I believe this entire discussion is even happening.
My two sons have been watching reruns of “The Brady Bunch” this past week, and during a show they asked my wife, “is this a Christian show, Mom?”
The impetus for the question was the family praying before a meal.
She explained that, no, it wasn’t explicitly a Christian show: it merely reflected normal society at the time it was filmed.
That an 11-yr old boy would be so shocked at the inclusion of simple prayer in a TV show says worlds about where we are today.
When society collectively turns away from being God-centered, everything and anything is possible. There is no “right” or “wrong”. There is only whatever new idea pops into someone’s head.
Gay marriage has no logical place in any society. It is not a human right: it is a human “want”.
And if we start categorizing all of our “wants” as “rights”, then the term “rights” no longer has any real meaning.
Agreed. Except I am not so sure it is even a want.
They want to live promiscuously. They want to shack up. And they want that to be considered not just normal but “right,” just as society sees (and should see) marriage as right. Give them marriage, and watch what they do with that “right.” What they really want is to do away with the notion that marriage is right. Give it 20 years if things keep going their way and let’s see who’s getting married any more… outside the Church.
As long as the Church holds that marriage is a sacrament, which it always will, they will always have a bone to pick with the Church. Apparently, then, there will always be persecution. The state is the one who needs to stay out of this one.
Excellent post! I like God’s definition of marriage… after all – He invented it.

And who are we to disagree? Thanks, Wendy! God bless!
