At the end of the liturgical year, after celebrating Christmas, Easter, and all of its feasts and solemnities, the Church has one last thing to say: Jesus Christ is King.
Jesus Christ is the king of time, of the universe, of every single person; yet, his Kingdom is not of this world, so we don’t see it.
Although he is all powerful, his kingdom is not one of power but of love. We learn this when we see the throne that our king rules from, the cross, where he stretched out his hands in the greatest gesture of love a king could possibly ever show.
Here is a link to the homily I gave last year on Christ the King. I posted a written version of it a few weeks back.
Wonderful post. As Bl. Miguel Pro yelled before his firing squad, “Viva Cristo Rey!”
Viva Cristo Rey!
A moving picture painted about Fr. Kevin and how he reached out in love to the homeless man in Rome. Alleuia! I will prayer the Our Father with new vigour and insight of ‘Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’. Thank you for sharing this, Fr.
Thanks, Catholic Salmon. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful post. I loved hearing the homily spoken after having time to reflect on my reading of it earlier.
A double dose sometimes helps to let things sink in more deeply the second time around. I’m glad you liked it, Reinkat. God bless!
Hallelujah! Jesus Christ reigns supreme.
Amen!
The cross is where death was defeated. The death of our lives lived in sin. The grave is the evidence of that defeat. And the right hand of God is where the King lives! Thank you for the reminder.
You are welcome, Gracie. And thank you for the beautiful synopsis!
I am visiting with my parents and my mom and I listened to your homily together. We both agreed that your homily was beautiful. Thank you for the reminder that God is everywhere, in all of us, in the person sitting next to us. Following God is the most important thing. God Bless.
You are most welcome, Teresa. God bless!
Your words are comforting. Thank you.
