I came across some old statues of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary in Stony Point, New York, and as both Easter and Biltrix are on my mind, I immediately thought of posting some pictures of them.

Taking quality pictures of the statues turned out to be more of a challenge than I originally thought. Several of the statues are unfortunately missing hands, feet, or noses, so a simple shot of the statues simply would not work.

I actually found some spiritual fruit in this little creative struggle. Looking at the statues from different angles and having to eliminate figures or apply filters helped me think of each mystery in a new way. In the Resurrection shot, for example, Jesus’ face is disfigured and some of his fingers are missing–something not fitting for the Resurrected body! How do you capture a nice photo of that? And in the statue of the Ascension Jesus is missing both arms, making for a very interesting challenge, until I suddenly realized I didn’t have to photograph the statue of Jesus at all.

For those of you who like photography, I used the Hipstamatic app camera on my iPhone, which always give you interesting colors and some delightful surprises.
