How do you define “Reactionary”?

I looked up the word reactionary in the dictionary and here’s what I found:

I suppose, based on this definition, you can’t call this teacher’s behavior as reactionary. So what do you call it? To say that he might have overreacted seems like a mild understatement.

A friend of mine recently posted this picture on my Facebook timeline and asked me to write an article on Natural Law arguments regarding Gay Marriage.

Why might I be a bit hesitant to write such an article? Two reasons.

First, no one wants to be branded as a hate-monger, just for expressing his personal views on a controversial topic.

Second, following from the first, this country is not ready for a debate on Gay Marriage, because both sides need to be reasonable before there can be any debate. Note, I have not been specific about who I’m calling unreasonable. Since I learned that I did not even know the definition of the word reactionary until just recently, I think I’d better look up the word unreasonable, first, lest I unwittingly end up using it on myself.

So, am I going to write the article. I will, unless someone talks me out of it.

I’m pretty sure no one is going to talk me out of it.
