Dear HHS: Of Course It’s about Contraception 1

Since the Health and Human Services Department announced its controversial mandate just over two weeks ago, the thrust of most arguments against it have focused on its being an unprecedented attack on religious liberty and freedom of conscience, which it most certainly is.

Just one step away

Some people, however, have been insisting too much that the real issue at stake is not about contraception, as if to say, frankly, that’s a thorny issue we’d rather not have to deal with right now.

It certainly is a thorny issue and, in fact, it really is More…

More will follow suit.

The President of Ave Maria University Jim Towey released a strong statement saying in no uncertain terms that Ave Maria University will not comply with the HHS contraceptive mandate.

Unfortunately, a provision in the massive health care reform legislation will now force the University to either violate our core beliefs or discontinue health care coverage for our employees, and in the process, pay a steep fine to the federal government.

This is wrong. Ave Maria University rejects this religious intolerance and will not bow down before government regulations that are manifestly unjust.

Towey said the college is also  considering legal action against the administration.

Towey, a former Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of the White House Office of Faith‐Based and Community Initiatives from 2002‐2006, said this administration’s Faith Based Initiative is “descending to the level of farce.”

You can watch a short video of Towey’s…

Catholic College President Says He Made an Oath that President Obama Cannot Force Him to Break Reply

Well done, in the true spirit of St Thomas More! Anyone who has taken this oath should be saying the same thing.

Campus Notes

When William Edmund Fahey, Ph.D. became President of Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in 2009 he took an oath. And he clearly takes that oath seriously. Very seriously.

Each year he repeats the words of that oath along with the faculty of the college on their New Hampshire campus:

With Christian obedience I shall follow what the Bishops, as authentic doctors and teachers of the faith, declare, or what they, as those who govern the Church, establish.

Today, Fahey released an open letter to the College’s representatives in Washington and President Barack Obama saying that his oath of fidelity to the bishops conflicts with the mandate recently announced by the administration which would force the college to pay for things it believes sinful including contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs through their health insurance .

“I will stand by my oath and with my bishops,” he wrote. “I hope that in so doing I will…

Is the Abortion Media Blind? (Are You Kidding?) 2

I was stunned, when I read Ross Douthat’s op-ed, “The Abortion Media’s Blinders,” in The New Times’ Sunday Review, to find the most insightful, not to mention fair and balanced article yet written on the Planned Parenthood vs. Komen fiasco, which dominated the media’s attention at the end of last week. He hit the nail on the head when he More…

Here’s Why the Komen Foundation Reversed Its Decision to Defund Planned Parenthood 2

Hate is viral, according to the true sense of the term. It infects, burns, spreads, and sometimes even kills.

Apparently, the thousands of support and thank you emails to the Komen foundation were not enough to abate the hate mail they received for revoking funds to the abortion giant Planned Parenthood. It was comments like this one More…

Free to Believe 2

The so-called “New Atheism” boasts a generation of brilliant, eloquent, scientifically-minded, critical thinkers of the likes of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Steven Hawking, and the late Christopher Hitchens. Through their best-selling books, sold-out conferences, and public debates, these celebrity intellectuals have influenced many a young mind to embrace the New Atheism and pile onto the bandwagon of disenchanted souls aspiring to eradicate religion from the face of the earth. As a result, many young amateurs have been inspired to produce a-critical videos like this one:

Two big unfounded assertions underlie the views presented in this video: first, Read more
